What Is Matched Betting?

What Is Matched Betting?

What Is Matched Betting? Essentially, it is a strategy that enables individuals to take advantage of the promotional offers provided by bookmakers to make guaranteed profits. It involves placing two opposing bets on different outcomes of a particular event, effectively cancelling out the risk and ensuring a profit regardless of the outcome.

For example, there are 2 teams playing football, you can leverage the bookmakers’ free bet to bet on one team, and then match it with your money on the other team – a guaranteed win for you!

In this blog post, I will dive into a bit more detail to help answer the question ‘What Is Matched Betting?’, for those who are interested in knowing more. I’ll cover everything from the concept of matched betting, exploring how it works and why it has become a lucrative strategy for risk-free profits.

So let’s get into it…

How Does Matched Betting Work?

Now we’ve covered ‘What Is Matched Betting?’ – It’s time to To understand matched betting, let’s break down the process into a few key steps:

Sign up with a bookmaker: The first step is to register and create accounts with various bookmakers. It’s beneficial to choose bookmakers that offer attractive sign-up bonuses, free bets, or other promotional offers to maximise potential profits.

Basically what I do is go to the outplayed guide for the bookmaker to see what the offer is. I then check Oddschecker.co.uk, then I do a google search.

I then also read the outplayed guide forums section where members post the latest info. For example someone might say just been asked for ID, which might put me off.

Place a qualifying bet: Once you’ve signed up, you’ll need to place a qualifying bet using your own money. This initial bet is placed on one outcome of a specific event. For example, you might bet on Team A to win a football match.

Lay bet on a betting exchange: Heres the magical way to make all this risk free. The unique aspect of matched betting involves placing a lay bet on a betting exchange. A lay bet essentially means betting against the outcome you wagered on in the previous step. In this case, you would bet against Team A winning the match. Betting exchanges, such as Betfair, allow you to act as a bookmaker and offer odds for other bettors to back against.

Balance the bets: By carefully calculating the stake and odds, you can ensure that your potential losses from the qualifying bet are offset by the winnings from the lay bet. This process allows you to lock in a profit regardless of the final outcome.

Unlock and use the free bet: Once the qualifying bets are settled, the bookmaker will credit your account with the promised free bet. You can then repeat the process by placing a qualifying bet using the free bet, ensuring another guaranteed profit.

Why is Matched Betting Attractive?

Risk-free profits: My personal favourite reason being that the strategy is designed to eliminate the risk involved in traditional gambling. By placing opposing bets, you can secure a profit regardless of the outcome of the event. Not to mention, any profits are completely tax-free!

Leveraging bookmakers’ promotions: Matched betting capitalises on the generous offers and promotions provided by bookmakers to attract new customers. These offers can range from free bets to enhanced odds, providing ample opportunities for profitable outcomes.

No prior knowledge of sports is needed: Unlike traditional gambling, matched betting does not rely on sports knowledge or expertise. It is a mathematical strategy based on odds calculations and can be done by anyone with correct execution.

Accessibility & flexibility: Matched betting can be done online. There are numerous resources, tools, and dedicated websites that provide step-by-step guidance and support (including my discord group) It can be done as a side hustle if you currently work full-time but if done effectively, you could replace your full-time income with it! See my betting reports as an example of this.
